That may have been the case when they did the study, but it literally takes 2 minutes for a page to load.
Have you tried rebooting the phone? Occasionally an Edge/3G/WiFi slowdown may be down to the device and not just the network and sometimes a cold reboot does the trick and things get back normal.

Download Xtreme Labs Speed Test from the app store and check for yourself. I've noticed an increase in speed since Dec/Nov in the Seattle area. It seems ATT added additional backhaul capacity and now I'm routinely seeing over 2,200 Kbps down on 3G. Last summer if I got 1,600 Kbps I was happy.

for the past few years, engadget has done their own independent tests in the major cities around the country, and AT&T still has faster download and upload speeds than any other US carrier.

Its hard to put faith in independent assessments when I know quite a few people here with iphones that have complained about slow network speeds - and this is in Atlanta. They oversold the network and IMO are not doing a very good job at upgrading their infrastructure to keep pace with demand. As long as they have an exclusive sales agreement with Apple they don't need to do a good job.

Regardless, I'll change my opinion when I stop hearing about the complaints.

Looks like there have been some recent upgrades in Atlanta...
