I heard a cultural reference from your country I don't get
#1
As a Brit who watches a good amount of U.S. TV (Curb, Family Guy, South Park, Letterman etc), there are always cultural references (in-jokes) that I don't get. I thought it'd be useful to have a thread where we can ask each other about things from each others countries we don't understand.
I'll kick it off with one of last nights family guy episodes. Stewie gets put outside in his cot and it's raining. He's clearly dreaming and says "that's right shyer, gimme all you got".
Oh, and why do so many Americans pronounce Parmesan as "Parmesjzchsharn". It's pronounced parmezann or parmiggiano reggiano. Neither of which sound anything like Parmesjzchsharn.
Oh, and why do Americans use the German word Lachs when they mean salmon?
That's a few to kick things off, I'm sure we've all got plenty.

DD, you will find many differences here in the US depending on where you happen to be.
C's, mel and their crowd north don't know how to say PARK, for example.
Even salmon has different pronunciations in the states, in addition to LOX.
Spealing of fish, you should hear some of us pronounce CRAPPIE!
Whatever boils your crawfish works for us. And I like it that way.

It's actually "That's right Shia, gimme all you got"
In reference to Shia LeBeouf performing a questionable act on Stewie's face!!

This is a reoccurring reference to the fact that Stewie might be gay.

Lox is a term for smoked salmon, the way it's prepared, not a type of fish. And I believe it's Norwegian in origin, best served w bagels, cream cheeze, onions and capers, yum! some like tomato thrown in there too altho I find it throws off the flavor too much
