I only park next to Lambos and modified Civics with scissor-doors. Completely avoids any chance of a door ding.

When you have no choice but to park between cars here are a couple other suggestions:
- Try to avoid parking near a two door car. They have larger doors and require a wider opening to enter.
- In your parking spot, position your car so it is closer to the car with the passenger side near you, hoping the car only has a driver and nobody will open the passenger side doors.
Adding more:

- Avoid parking next to cars with car-seats! (except mine because I'm considerate )

In my work parking structure, at the bottom level in a end spot way from everyone. I usually drive the Explorer to baseball games, concerts, Home Depot, Grocery store, Costco Etc. I never valet and park in the far away from anyone. So far I have not got dings on the Explorer in 5 years. Nothing on the 535 either, but I have only had it for 3 weeks, but plan to keep it ding free.

I agree that taking two spots is asking for trouble, but keying somebody's car over that is just asking for bad Karma. What goes around comes around.

+1 -- clearly these are all things to consider...

The only problem is you can never guarantee that the next car to pull in after one of those previously parked cars leaves will meet the same criteria!

How many times have you freaked out after carefully choosing a "good" space only to return to your car and find some old beat up POS parked next to you? I immediately go into damage investigation mode and have even gone as far as noting the make, model, and license plate information of the junker just in case I notice some ding later on...
