Spinning of the tires is not a likely cause. If I would guess it would be grass or other vegetation on the catalytic converter. It's more common than you would think and it could happen in a car too. I've been on trails with SUVs and seen this almost happen many times when people stop over tall grass and suddenly you smell smoke. It won't take long either.

BTW, the Audi sales rep strongly suggested that I sue Honda!!!!

Ridiculous suggestion in my opinion: manipulating the system. I was amazed at the mentality of this guy especially since I highly doubt it's Honda's fault.

Anyways, thank you all for your concern. I really appreciate it.

It's part of your exhaust therefore gets very hot and hangs low in most any car making contact with vegetation a likely cause for fire if you're stuck in one place with the engine running over tall grass.

sue them!!!! im glad your wife and baby are okay.. she must be scared shitless.. wow guess she really hated you putting her in a minivan huh.. sounds like somethign i would do.. on another note

get the audi! there great cars with the all wheel drive.. and the led's on the 09's are sick looking.. i had one before my bimmer and its an awesome car..
