As a side note, with all the meets we all do, we should raise money for charities like these. It's a great cause. The next meet we do on the east coast, we're incorporating a charity into it.

Make sure you wear comfortable, supportive, well broken in shoes. On pavement or sidewalks, make sure they have a soft sole.
Find some mole skin at a good outdoors store. It's like a squishy bandaid that stops blisters from getting worse.
I did a 6 mile hike one day, got a blister, put mole skin on it, and hiked 17 miles the next day.
