I just get pulled over this morning coming to work for having tints on my front windows.
On Friday I had 40% tint put on all round (excluding the windshield) just in time for the bear mountain meet. It looked very pale in comparison to others there but I was happy with it. This morning merging into traffic I pulled up right next to a cop...he looks at me, I look at him then he drops down behind me, I think I signaled to pull over even before his lights went on.
He was very plesant and explained the NJ tint law fortunately I have no points so he told me that next time it would be a $54 summons...I drive up and down here 3 times a day and in fact about 1/2 an hour later I saw the same cop again with one of his friends but I was on the opposite side of the road.
Guess I will have to make an appointment to get the tint removed, I could just see getting 3 tickets a day if they wanted :-(

It's tough on law enforcement at night walking up to a vehilce and not knowing what's facing them. Just go as dark as possible, I believe its 30%, hwoever, the factory windows already have a tint. So putting 30% on just adds to it.

o damn that sucks! you just got them! your car looked good and i was thinking about the same shade %. i didnt think they would bother you with that light of a tint... i guess it all depends on who you get, they can be asses! i used to have 5% and got pulled over only couple of times but that was many moons ago... guess with the way NJ is strapped for money they ticket anything... are you really gonna take it off or try 50% shade?

I'm not sure what to do. It cost 300 for the 7pc 3M tint I had done...it's gonna look bad with the two front windows stripped and the rear tinted but it feels like a real shame to waste the money on the rear when I could leave it in. He did stress ANY tint when he stated the law so I think he'd be there waiting for me every morning even with 50%. I see him or one of his friends nearly every morning so it could get to be an expensive experiment...eating into my m-tech fund :-p
You MIGHT have better luck with your dark paint because there is less contrast than with the silver but then who knows!
Maybe I should start a poll see what everyone thinks I should do? hahaha

Sorry to hear that Richard. I was about to tint the windows as well. But other mods got in the ways. I always worry about getting pulled over or not passing the inspection. Thats why I keep postponing it. That's such a waste of money if you decided to strip them all off. F@#%in cops!
This is what you can do (for a short term) to keep the tints on:
1) Find a different route to get to work, if possible. Or
2) Roll down the front windows when you are in the area (it'd be tough in winter).
Good luck!
