Have a berry and I don't have texting. You can text for free all you want through Google Voice.

I don't think they do the invites the same way they did Gmail, etc. You can usually just request an invite yourself at:
https://services.google.com/fb/forms/googlevoiceinvite/
It usually doesn't take very long before they send you your invite -- keep in mind that you may want to use a Gmail address when you request it. Not sure if they're prioritizing their own customers...
