Aside from being in awe of his acting, I was always amazed that he and his wife of what...40 years?...were able to stay married and raise a normal family despite being connected with Hollywood. The man was a true maverick. He did what he loved, but he didn't let his acting career corrupt his foundation & didn't let his ego become more important than his roots. He damn well did it his way! I admire the heck out of that and there aren't many actors who have been able to do it. What a loss. And "God speed" seems the appropriate term for one who love racing so much so I say "God speed, Mr. Newman."

Such a huge loss to not only Hollywood but the racing community as well.
He will be missed by many...![Crying](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/crying.gif)

Take a look at the great tribute to Paul that David Letterman did on the Late Show: ![Thumbsup](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/thumbsup.gif)
(I think you'll also find the story of the 170mph Volvo interesting...)

I drove through Westport CT this past Sunday, after returning from a trip up to Mystic CT with my wife for the weekend. He really was low-key about who he was as an actor and a hollywood star. He didn't like all the fame that came along with it. The town clearly paid tribute to him, but honored him as just being another person that lived in the town of Westport, CT. It's really sad.
In his honor, I played Slap Shot the other day. It's still one of my favorites.

All around an amazing human being. Not only his support for American road racing, but the huge sum of money, time, and effort given to charity.
You will be missed.
