The Germans even "mostly" renewed the roads made by the Roman Empire, and that is what AH did also as you mentioned. Whatever he did to the World, this one was a good one, hope he would have bulit only roads! ( Actually we all know Blau und Wei? (Blue and White) comes from the Aircraft factory, who actually did produce the airplanes used by G. Air Force in WWII.). But that is just a fact of history.
Ok, and now the German Autobahn is of at least 7 m widths of different layers, invisible channels for leaking away the moisture or more the rain.
I just love to "play" there, and yes it is sometimes dangerous, but always great fun and high quality

(Actually I cannot guarantee on this but never ever seen an patrol when you enter from Achen to Bxl either, in B you have freeways of the quality of G Autobahns, but here is a restriction of 120km/h.

A4, many sections without a speed limit
Landshut - Passau, very nice section, because of less traffic
A60, Heidesheim - Kreuz Nahetal
sections of the A63, Mainz - Kaiserslautern
A24 Elmshorn - Tornesch
A33 Bielefeld - Paderborn, Ca. 50km, very less traffic, less trucks/lorrys
Holledau - N?rnberg (known as a race track
)there are a lot more but these are those i've found now
