What's the price of fuel / diesel in your country ?
I guess U.K. set the record !
Here in Belgium :
- Super 98 RON unleaded-50S = 1,355 Euro / 1 liter (6,25 $ / 1 US gallon)
- Diesel-50S = 1,078 Euro / 1 Liter (4,98 $ / 1 US gallon)
That's why 80% of new cars sold here are diesel ! And 75% of all BMW's sold in Belgium use diesel ! 50% of the total price of diesel are taxes ...
What are the records ? Max & mini ??

Prices overhere seems to bee around 1,28 for 95E and about 1,03 for winter quality diesel.
A530dA standard costs > 70.000 ? and has a diesel tax of about 550 ? / year.

98 RON 1.40/l = $7.08 US Gallon
Diesel 1.35/l = $6.10 US Gallon

Diesel is cheaper due to lower taxes (delta is approx. 22 ct per litre) on Diesel fuel.
Fuel is subject to heavy taxation here: 65,45 ct/l (47,04 ct/l for Diesel) mineral oil tax and 0,46 ct/l (0,39 ct/l) "stocking" tax.

Reg petrol (87 octane) - $2.29 per US gallon
Premium (92 octane) - $2.49
Diesel - $2.69
In NC - About $.44 a gallon is tax - 18 federal and 26 state so we sit on the other side of 80/20. I am surprised by the extra cost you pay for "premium" gas - I would put regular in my car if that was the case - here it is so little...
The funny thing is that in NC, our gas tax is indexed to go up as prices go up. So it went up about 2.5 cents this year d/t higher prices (we paid $1.50 a year ago) and there was a call for a special session of the state legislature to repeal the increase!
