A crowded United Airlines flight was canceled. A single agent was
rebooking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly an angry
passenger pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket on the
counter and said "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST
CLASS."
The agent replied, "I am sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help
you, but I've got to help these folks first, and I'm sure we'll be able to
work something out."
The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the
passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?"
Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address
microphone, "May I have your attention please, " she began, her voice
heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate
14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity,
please come to Gate 14."
With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared
at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore "F*** You!". Without
flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to get in line for that too".

[/quote]I watched a real loud mouth self-proclaimed important person (speaking English only) trying to get in front of the line at Pernambuco Airport, Recife, Brasil and the Immigration folks saying they did not understand him and asked him to step back to let the next person in line come up. As I drove away, he was still in line at immigration, not even to customs yet.
In Trinidad, they actually hauled another similar type away, and to the best of my knowledge, put him on a plane returning to his origination point.
Also in Trinidad, Pan Am took care of my mom-in-law exit paperwork. Appears they went "around" the immigration folks. When we appeared to send her off they said, sure we'll let her on, but before the plane leaves we will go and drag her off. I chose to reschedule her departure and go take care of the revenue tax issue myself as it was just a formality in this case.
An Argentinean lady friend of ours left for her home country Nov 2003. She has been there ever since, missing her sons HS grad, off to college, etc., all because of botched up paperwork.
Ya gotta be humble entering and exiting countries ? they hold all the power.
