If you aren't caching, then you have to load everything again each time you visit a page.
A slightly better option is to run a ramdisk (if you have enough physical memory) and configure your cache (whatever its size) to utilize the ramdisk instead of the hard disk.

Photoshop CS4 can still only access 3GB on OS X due to it being 32bit. To get around that I use RAM as first scratch disk. then a Raptor drive as second scratch disk. But i've hardly ever have to use the raptor as scratch.

how do i increase the cache or utilze a ramdisk? i have 4gb of memory running in xp (only 3gb get appreciated)...

It causes more previously visited pages to have to be re-parsed (thus increasing their load time). Raising it has the opposite effect. One page will on average take 4MB of memory.

Do a search for XP ramdisk software, and you should also be able to find some "how-to" stuff on converting your browser to use the ramdisk for cache.
