Krozi post some pics when you get a chance. You're dad is really into the xds i see. those are super solid guns.
Oh, the 1911s are known to jam..but with a few modifications they shoot extremely well. My most accurate hangun at the moment is my Kimber team match II 1911.
I will post some pics when I get the chance. I convinced my dad to get a 1911 because I have always wanted a POS gun that spits out lead don't ask me why but I love it. besides, it's a good gun to practice jam procedures.
The last time I was at the range, even the rear iron sights fell off.

Marc,
To me the 1911 is just nostalgia. History, competition, etc, but technology has passed it by. If I were to buy a 1911, probably a Kimber, but only as a fun gun. Too much gunsmithing to be reliable. For SD, you want to walk cocked and locked... and might not go boom? Not me. 45 is nice round, I would go with XD45 any day before 1911. Like you said though, good practice to clear jams BTW, I am expanding my horizons into rifles. New .270 and an AK. Let's hit the range one weekend!

For anyone having jamming issues with their 1911's, don't use those crappy mags that most come with. Buy some Wilson Combat mags and say goodbye to jamming...for the most part.

Yea, I love the XD's I think that the XD-40 is the perfect balance, very limited recoil, good capacity, and it's a good sized round. I must say though, with the weight of the 1911, it feels more like a 9mm when you are firing 45's

Did you get that AK fixed? I remember you made some people who where driving by at the meet a little nervous

That wasn't me. That was my numb nut buddy Mark . Should have it back this week. Still hard to find ammo though. I've been on backorder from Cabelas since February

Ammo is pretty important too. The kimbers don't seem to like reloads or cheap rounds.

I don't have firearms but can I be an honorary enthusiast given that my office is filled with war art (John Paul Strain, Mort Kunstler and Dale Gallon with pieces depicting the Civil War, WWII, the Whiskey Rebellion, and Teddy Roosevelt sending off the White Fleet to sail around the world) with tons of guns in the paintings???

I give in Manhattan where the only folks allowed to own guns are the criminals.
