Got nailed today for 73 in a 55. Stupid me had the radar detector off. The cop was nice, said a 545 will do that for ya. He knocked it down to 66 in a 55 and was very nice about it. I thanked him and left with my little yellow slip in hand. I said from day one "It's not if, but when I get a ticket." Well guess I've got that behind me, I'm just glad he didn't clock me a few seconds earlier or I might have been posting bail about now

That's OK, I just think of those tickets as the cost of doing business. Besides, someone has to support the police departments.

You're paying for your own private Autobahn. And the reality is that in another part of the world, people are allowed to drive that fast without worry of getting a ticket, and they DO pay more for their roads and police, just in a different payment form.

Where I live, they'd never give me a reduced ticket infraction.

I thought for sure I would have one by now, and it turns out I get one in a rental minivan in Florida, 30 seconds before I return it. He reduced it to failure to observe traffic device (speed limit sign) $170

Hi Epochii,

Sorry to hear about the ticket.

A few years back I attended a BMW X5 "Ultimate Drive" in the S.F. Bay Area. You got to try out an X5 and basically push the V8 to the limit. There were race car drivers who accompanied you.

Well, part of the activities for the day was to support the Susan G. Kohmen breast cancer foundation and drive the silver BMWs (X5, Z3, 3, 5, & 7 series vehicles) on a 20-mile trek around the S.F. area. This was an activity that took about 30 minutes.

Well for the BMW pack that I drove with, it took us over an hour! Why? Well, er, um, all 7 cars got pulled over on Hwy 101 as we were returning.

The cop asked each of the drivers (I was a passenger. My "significant other" was the driver -- We were in a 7 series) how fast they were speeding. Being in the 7 series and last of the pack the police officer told us, "O.K., so thus far I have one driver saying all of you were going about 85, another 98, another over 100, another 85.... So how fast were YOU going?"

We said, "Around 85." Seriously though, I last saw the speedometer at past 100.

The police officer ticketed everyone at 85 MPH.

Nice guy. He could have easily ticketed all of us for exhibition of speed beyond 100 MPH. Imagine the sight of having 7 silver BMWs being towed away and having to tell the BMW staff that the cars were being impounded! Glad he gave us an 85 MPH in a 65 MPH zone ticket instead!

Good Luck. I definitely feel your pain.

Well I called in and the ticket is $105. Not too bad considering what could have happened. The one thing I have trouble with in the car is that it is so smooth and quiet that you don't realize that you are up to 80. Time to reset my speed warning.
