Don't think the airbag would go off that easily unless there was a faulty installation.
I know some time ago, thieves stealing car here took a small lump hammer with them. A reasonably hard wollop at the front triggered the airbag which in turn opened the doors. One was in.
So if u ever lock your keys in your car, pull the lump hammer from the bat utility belt and hey presto! Central un-locking.!!

That's pretty funny. That's next to the street where I live (Malm?, Sweden). It's the raw material for a IKEA commercial. I saw when they were filming, and the airbag was some kind of stunt device mounted on the stearing wheel.
