What's even scarier in the current regime's outright alienation of the Ayatollah's heirs, which is a huge violation of Shiite law, but is somehow being ignored. Even the ayatollah's most prominent grandson has voiced his concern and in return he has had his speeches cancelled. That government is getting crazier.

I, for one, am concerned about the mounting tensions with Iran.
But with the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq, we don't have the
additional resources to be Iran's global police.

IMO, I think it's time for country [or countries] to take on this
responsibility.

Edit: Does anyone remember how we ended Japan's reign of terror over the Pacific in WWII?
Thats EXACTLY why Iran's nuclear movement is SO troubling!

Seriously though, they might be able to take out one or two cities, but do you really believe that Iran will even exist immediately after they do that? I'm willing to bet that our retaliation alone will take out at least 1/3, if not more, of that country and then we'll take out the rest if they keep sending nukes our way.

Well, there's a few problems with that stance, for one they can't really reach us yet (Perhaps Diego Garcia), for another thing it really sucks to live in that zone where they CAN hit. The vast majority of which are allies of the US, including Turkey, Italy Greece, Saudi Arabia, India, and Isreal (btw Isreal and India have nukes too, so this could lead to all out nuclear war)

Once Iran's nuclear ambition is fulfilled that capability will be shared to others with the same mindset as Iran. I can only imagine...

Since this seems to be an acceptable topic to discuss here, I'll share my views.

It is my expectation that the Israeli armed forced will attempt to take out Iran's nuclear program within the next 1-2 years if the rest of the world does not stop it given the Iranian President's repeated public statements that he wants to obliterate Israeli.

If Israel does it (if it is even militarily possible to do it from the air), the other countries in te Middle East will condemn Israel publically but celebate privately.

There is no way that the Sunni countries of the Middle East want Shite-dominated Iran to have the bomb.

Personally, I believe that war with Iran may very well be unavoidable because, to me, there is no question that the mullahs in Iran want the bomb, feel a religious duty to use it and will not stop until they get it.

They will not stop. They must be stopped. And I doubt that when push comes to shove, the Russians or the Chinese will use force to stop the Iranian nuclear bomb program. We will soon see if President Obama's stoppage of the missle defense sites in Eastern Europe will get the Russians to play ball. I fear that it won't be and that the task will once again fall upon the west, that is, the US and its allies.

I hope that I am being unduly pessimistic and that I am wrong. Most Iranians do not support their government and would prefer closing ties to the west IMHO. I certainly hope that the Iranian people rise up, have another revolution and overthrow the government. That government is inexorably leading Iran into the abyss.

Red dawn...
Operation red dawn was the capture of Hussein...
Red Dawn, a classic early '80's American movie! Highly unlikely that it ever made it's way overseas. One of Patrick Swayze's finest roles...
