Mrs MacSid and have received the option of a 10-day getaway to the Caribbean, nicely coinciding with our second anniversary, and covering the Christmas period too. We're now struggling to choose between St. Maarten (where we honeymooned), Guadeloupe and Martinique. I'm sure some of our number here have experiences of these three places, and may be able to help us compare and decide (especially if you've been to more than one of them). Any suggestions/recommendations?

I've been on an Eastern Caribbean cruise and a Western. This means I've seen a bunch of islands for about 6 hours each so I'm no expert. I liked St. Maarten but also St. Thomas. Megans Bay on St. Thomas is georgeous. It is by far the most "American" of islands if you don't want to be too removed from normal things. Tortola was neat. We just went to a beach to hang out when there. Friends honeymooned in Turks & Caicos and loved it.

I didn't care for Jamaica or Barbados. Some beautiful scenery but the folks weren't very friendly.
Cozumel was neat but I think they are still rebuilding from a devastating hurricane.

I spent 2 weeks in Guadaloupe several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, quite small and laid back though. Probably not an action or shopping hotspot.

Bon Voyage !!

Avoid Bahamas, Jamaica, or Tobago....dirty nasty people. Service stinks and the islands are dirty.

Thanks for all the input folks. We're leaning towards St Maarten at the moment. We loved it the last time around, and it seems to be pretty easy to make side trips over to St. Barth, Saba, etc.
