So I purchased the Toshiba HD-A20 DVD player yesterday and came home to watch the Last Samurai in 1080p (My TV is the Sony KDS-R60XBR2 60" Grand Wega SXRD LCD). The picture was amazing, as was the sound, but I'm questioning whether I should have gone Blu-Ray instead...
So, my question is this...
Should I stick with this HD DVD player or go with Blu-Ray? I visited BlockBuster last night and couldn't help but notice how many more titles were available on Blu-Ray, over HD DVD. Furthermore, knowing that I have a Sony TV, I can't help but think that Blu-Ray will look better on my Sony TV.
I paid $319 for this new HD DVD player and the HD-A20 is a brand new model by Toshiba.
What do you guys think? Should I stick with this player or return it and go with Blu-Ray?

Hey Calton, go for the Sony Playstation3 It is an excellent game console but is also a Blu-Ray player and a computer! And the price is just about the same as a regular Blue-Ray player. You can watch Blu-Ray movies, play video games, play mp3 or movies from your other computers, and even surf the web with the PS3!

Does Blu-Ray upconvert normal DVD's to 1080p? The Toshiba player upconverts standard dvd's (SD), but I'm not sure about Blu-Ray.

Yeah, I considered this, but I do not want to spend $1000 on a player, when I know these prices will drop significantly in the next year.
T - I was thinking this too, but here's my question...

Any decent Blue ray player will upscale SD dvd's - but is this your defining parameter ? IMO, since your happy with the quality on the Toshiba - just go along with this setup : the future of the formats will reveal itself sure enough, then you can make a more educated/researched purchase.
You did mention however title availablity - if your concerned about that and have found films you like on BR and not on HD then maybe you need to reconsider.
