Damn. It's either $128 or $180 (depends on the weight of the car) every two years here in Maryland. And I thought that was steep....

I feel your pain my friend...i just got my bill for 2005 545i...almost $600...for a 4 year old car!!! its always been like that here in AZ

its called the vehivle license tax and as some of you have mentioned, its based on msrp

They are.....

You have to "register" the car each year (after it's been inspected, (MOT in the UK) ), it's their version of UK road tax.

The tabs have an expiration date on them, like UK road tax discs.

(I've got lots of American family ;-) )

I just registered my 2008 535i here in Denver.... $905 later... Hopefully it will be a few dollars less next year.

Oh and I registered my old 2009 335xi last November for $1100..........
