The aerodynamics to these cars produce hundreds of pounds of downforce at the speeds they drive. The caveat to that is if you get the right amount of air underneath the spoilers, they serve only to lift the car off the ground and into the air you go. I haven't seen anything like this in a while. This reminded me of the unfortunate incident at Le Mans where a Mercedes CLK prototype lifted and flipped several times in the air, completely shredding the shell save for the chassis.

According to Mario Theissen (director of BMW's motorsport division) Robert has a fractured ankle. That's good news to me. If this is true, and assuming no complications, he will probably be out for 6-8 weeks for the bones to heal and another 3-4 weeks of rehab. He may be back for the last 4-5 races of the 2007 season.

I wish him a speedy recovery and much luck.

For those who didn't watch the race. Latest news is his ankle isn't broken. Amazing when you see the pictures.
Woah! Amazing indeed!
He may miss only 2 races.
Thank goodness for that.

Most exciting F1 race in years. I agree that Roberts wreck is definitely the most violent in years. Hope he can make a fast recovery. Those still shots of his foot sticking out the front of the car are amazing. What the hell was Alonso doing trying to make a pass on the outside of turn one, four times went off the track. The last time he did it, he gave away important championship points. Can't wait until Indy, go L. Hamilton!

Lewis Hamilton was not from a privileged background - his dad is now successful but back then had to maintain three jobs to support his junior racing.
I dunno the facts that well, but as i see it the kid had his father's support from day one. The fact that he worked 3 jobs to support him as a junior racers says it all. From what i've heard from the F1 talk, Kubica didn't have any support, in fact at the beginning his parents had strongly disagreed with racing, which gives even more kudos to Robert.

I bet you, Hamilton's father went millionaire even from the time Hamilton joined GP2. I wonder if Kubica's parents are anything close to millionaires if he wouldn't have gotten to F1.

And yes it's not in a way our business, but when developing a driver money counts...ALOT !

Bottom line and the most important thing is that probably among all drivers his parents and him also had the least support.

Why don't they stop the race???
F1 is all about money not the motorsport so unless there is some 1 dead they will never stop the race.
