...what the fuck are the words "53 year old man" and "Madonna concert" doing in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence?

I'm might be missing your point but if you're thinking the 53 year old man was a concert goer, you may want to re-read the article. I think the guy that died was a worker helping to build the stage for the show...

I think many people have forgotten that her first album came out 26 years ago

so the possibility of her having 50+ year old fans is very likely.

Nah. A 50 something person grew up around 70s Rock & Roll. They'd never like Madonna music. Blondie, maybe, but not Madonna.

Despite my opinion of Madonna or her fans, I find nothing strange about a 53-year-old fan (yes, I know it was a worker) of a 50-year-old musician whose career spans three decades. They are contemporaries afterall. I imagine when I'm that age I still will be attending the occasional concert if a band I enjoyed years before played a gig. If you think there wasn't a touch of gray in the crowd when Led Zepplin played a couple of years ago, you didn't watch the same footage I did.
