I have just noticed that no one answered your question.

BMW's Bluetooth services come via the TCU, which provides a variety of services incl. BMW Assist. It is standard on the 5er series in this market (i.e. all 5er Series models come with it at no additional cost). This is the same TCU found in other MOST bus-based BMWs.

Concerning compatibility, I have found that the BMW unit has greater compatibility than Bluetooth provided by any other car maker. The only system I haven't yet tested is Ford, which uses the Microsoft SYNC platform (and I will have a Lincoln MKS with SYNC next week so I will find out). I suspect that the SYNC platform has excellent compatibility.

I was not successful in MP3 retrofitting my 08-2004 545i. I have read several places that the Dension Gateway 500 will only work with vehicles that are MP3 capable. Is this true? Has anyone been successful in installing the Gateway on vehicles without MP3 capability?

 

I would be intrested in this, but how much more would it be to get video??

 

It's an addt'l $45 to get the IVE-1000 video interface.
