Odd Bluetooth Connectivity Issue
Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but looking for some advice/thoughts. Recently my Bluetooth audio connectivity has been acting bizarrely.
When I get into the car, it will connect to my phone (iPhone 14) and will happily play music/podcasts from the device. But , when I stop, get out the car to say fuel up or run an errand for a few minutes I run into this bizarre issue.
The iDrive will show the phone has reconnected and when I go into the menu to play audio, it will bring up the "manage mobile devices". I click on manage mobile devices and it will show on the screen that the phone is connected for both calls and bluetooth media/audio. When I press the media button and go through the list of options it will show my phone. On clicking my phone it will bring up the "manage mobile devices screen". In short it goes through this perpetual cycle and not play any audio. Of note, if I click on the Apps option is will spend the rest of the journey trying to connect. Leave the car for an 20 mins or so, then it reconnects fine and will play audio.
Has anyone had the same issue and been able to resolve it. I have checked if the firmware on the iDrive are up to date (according to the BMW update page it is) and also my phone is up to date. I am also not running any apps on the phone. I have disconnecting and forgetting devices whilst this is happening, but to no avail... Its beginning to be quite frustrating!
Thanks
RC

Have you tried resetting your network connections and delete phone on iDrive then reconnect. I usually do a soft reset (hold power button in until the system resets). That usually takes care of it.

Hey seanjordan20, I have done the delete on both the phone and iDrive but to no avail. I have also tried the soft reset and when holding the power button it does not shut down (must be because the engine is on so will attempt that again).

Yes I know you have. I was staying 2 steps you have to take when you reset your network connections you have to delete the phones in iDrive also to add them back successfully. If you've already reset your phones network settings and the soft reset did not work then the only thing that will work is a flash. Most of the time just the bluetooth update that BMW sends out (I believe you have the OTA update versus the US fixes the issue. In rare cases a module update is needed.

Ok then you need a module update. I went through the same thing in my ID6. Updated my phone and Bluetooth and CarPlay kept acting up. I update the Bluetooth firmware still the same thing. Once I flashed the module the problem was solved. After the flash I did notice the Bluetooth firmware was more up to date than firmware available on the BMW website for download.
