What are the best settings to use when burning a MP3 CD?

You are correct: The manual i got with my 2006 530i E61 says it will play MP3s from the main unit only, not the CD changer in the glove box (but looks like you can retro fit a E90 one on this forum). Only picked up the car a few days ago so not tested it on the main unit yet but will be shortly

Shame with Spotify nowadays i don't own as much music to burn onto CD.
