My Ride: 520d Estate 2012 F11
Default Power steering failure

Hi,

I have a 2012 F11 520d estate. 63,000 miles on the clock. it runs on 19 inch rims.

Whilst driving home on motorway yesterday the steering warning light came on and told me to drive moderately and seek to get a dealership to look at it.

Searched Internet and it advised topping up power steering fluid. I purchased some and then could not find filler cap. Further investigation revealed i don't probably have one as its electric.

the steering became very difficult and heavy and was almost like it was fighting against me.

I have driven to work again this morning which is a 25 mile motorway journey and everything was fine again until i arrived at work and it flashed the warning again.

Anybody have any ideas what this could be or how i fix it. I really hope it's not a major repair

It seems like there's something wrong, as the warning indicates. I assume you do not have the means to check the codes our you would of posted. My advise is to either acquire a BMW code reader or take it in. There's not much anyone can help you with without posting the codes.
