Hi, I bought an F11 530d SE Touring in May 2011 as an Approved Used Car. I get it back tomorrow after some issues with rusted brake discs and a scratched rear window. All of this has now been sorted out by the dealer. One of the things I asked was whether they would be able to update the Combox software to give me 7 digit post code search on the Professional Satnav. Now here is the saga:
The car was built in July 2010 and as it is an F11 it has the Combox but with the first version of the software - MX 001.012.000/TX 001.011.001
From September 2010 all F10s and F11s were fitted with the Combox but with a later software version that gives 7 digit postcode search and also flashing lights and horn sound through the Remote App on iPhone.
The dealer has never updated Combox software before but did some research with BMW and they say I need to first update the SatNav (£220) to the new version and only then can they perform the Combox software update.
Does anyone have an early build version of the F11 and gone through a software update? Did it work? Who did it and what, if any was the charge?
Thanks,
Matthew

Postcode search has nothing to do with the Combox. If you use the latest 2011 maps you will get post code search. I have a set of 2011 discs bought from the dealer if you want to buy a set for next to nothing.

I really thought that you needed a combox update along with the Sat Nav mapping update via disk. I would be very happy if all that is needed is the Sat Nav disk set as 5 digit postocde search is a real pain! Isn't the expensive part the of the Sat Nav update the unlock code from BMW rather than the disks themselves?
As you can tell from my reply I haven't had this updated.

Yes you need an FSC code from the dealer but you also need the discs as well. The discs are about £30 and the code is about £230. I can sell you the discs for £10 and I'll tell you where to get the FSC codes for $100 USD.

I updated the SatNav to 2012 mapping last weekend and I now have the ability to input 7 digit postcodes. The Combox software is unchanged and as there is no specific issue I won't bother paying to get it updated - if BMW would do it anyway.

And finally...
So in a previous post I said I updated the maps to those from 2012 and could enter 7 digits of a post code. This was true with a huge but, The car's systems still only acknowledged the first 5 digits rendering the update useless.
2 weeks ago the car was in for its latest service and I mentioned my 7 digit post code saga to Coopers in Tunbridge Wells and for £120 they updated the car's software and hey presto I really do now have full use of 7 digits when searching for a post code.
The software version went from:
MX 001.012.000
TX 001.011.001
to
MX-003.004.031
TX-003.004.031
All of my other settings (included my custom settings through coding) were reset to default. Well I got to play with a laptop connected to the OBD port once again. All is good in the land of the F11!
