In the process of gathering information about the different handling packages available so I can make an informed purchase. I plan on buying the 535i here in the US. I want a my driving experience to have the best if both worlds. The ability to have a "tight" and fun BMW feel as well as a nice comfort ride when necessary. I have visited my local dealership but have been unable to find options that allow me to make a well-informed decision. I look forward to everyone's opinions and facts regarding this matter. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the thread. Some good info but lots of confusion. I now have more info and lack of clarity. Everyone provides a different interpretations of the same options.

Does this 550i ordering guide help sort things out? Sorry, I don't have the 535i guide but I think the package descriptions should be the same. (Not really sure what the question is...)

not sure about standard suspension diferences..but for sure the 550 comes standard with 8 speed transmission, 535 purchasers need to get the SAT for the 8 speed transmission...

seems everyones getting confused over which market gets what standard...

In the US, the 8 speed auto is a no charge swap with the manual transmission, you don't have to get the SAT for it.

Yep, spent way too much time looking at them before ending up with a 550i.

Go on to the BMWusa site, build a 535i, mouse over the STEPTRONIC automatic transmission on options, it's an 8 speed for $0. You don't get any of the normal/sport/etc. settings, but it is an 8sp.

Page 34 of the press release says 6-speed manual or 8-speed auto. Then it compares the 8-speed auto to the "previous" 6-speed auto... meaning in the E60.

I have yet to hear of any F10 model with an auto that isn't 8-speed. Even the 520d has the 8-speed auto tranny available.

The different options in the U.S. are 6MT, 8AT, or Sport 8AT. I went with 6MT and it is really smooth!
