It's only a photoshopped 7er:

Although the artist used the new 7 as a template for his work, it's still based on the latest test cars' pics. It's funny that you noticed it though because the area I believe he's wrong about is the bottom of the doors on the new 5 and now we know why. It's only a crease line according to the most uncovered 5's recently photographed, and I wondered why he seemed so right about everything else. I have compared the newest 5 pics and I stand by my belief that we're looking at an extremely close approximation of the real thing -- just like C&D's page. Close enough, that is, that I know I'm going to like it.

Although folks are saying they hope it's not a mini-7, if it's anything like the new one I sat in a while back, and has the beautiful 'show-car-like' interior fittings of the 5GT, I'll gladly hand over the check (once I feel comfortable the bugs have had time to be taken care of).

I'm hoping BMWNA will bring over a modified version of Europe's Individual program. I understand their concern about cars being turned away once ordered, and then having a tough time selling them to someone else because of too much individualism, i.e. questionable tastes, but I do believe a limited set of 'pre-approved' interior options could be provided for us US customers as long as we were willing to wait for the extended production date. I'm talking about special paint colors, wood/metal trim for the interior, and unique leathers & 2-tone combinations, again, all pre-approved by BMW's own designers.

Would BMW make the GT unique? Wouldn't it share the front end, doors and interior with the new F10? Only the rear should be different, right?

By comparing the minimally covered 5er and the released 5GT you can clearly see the front end is different. GT's kidney grilles are higher for example.

I sure hope that they are different. The GT's front end looks like an angry pig to me. I certainly hope that BMW softens it and makes it profile lower for the F10.

The 5GT is not just a 5-door 5-series. As has been covered in nearly every review, it's closer to the size of the 7-series. It's also taller from floorboard to the top of the dash, hence the room for a drawer between the air vents and controls below it. This space doesn't exist in the new 5 because it's a shorter/smaller dash. And because of the increased height there, the doors are taller as well, so, no, they are not shared between the two types of 5-series either. BMW has been quoted as saying that the only thing they have in common are the door handles and mirrors. All of the exterior panels are unique, as well as the frame and wheelbase.

It has also been noted elsewhere that the new 3GT they are working on is actually closer to the 5-series in size than the new 3. This is, of course, going to confuse a lot of consumers.

I attached a photo of the 5GT's dash so you can see the extra space I'm talking about. It's even taller than the 7 because it's more like one of the lowered X SUV's than really anything else. Instead of 'station wagon with taller windows,' think 'SUV without the step up height.'

If these attachments show up in order, I have also attached a pic of the 5GT (black car) following a new 5-series with its grill exposed. You can clearly see not only the difference in the two grills but also how different these two cars truly are overall. For example, look at how different the two drivers are positioned from within. The 5GT is clearly larger and sits a lot more upright (SUV-like). And for good measure I also attached a pic of the new 5-series interior with a lot exposed.

Would BMW make 3-series sedan, coupe, and M3 all different? Yes.

I also noticed something on the new 5-er interior pic - no handbrake? Just a button?
So, first no dipstic, then no temperature gauge, now no handbrake.....
They better not do this on an M5!
