Default USB port in glove box?

I've just purchased a 2010(60) 520d SE (collecting it on Monday). I noticed that it has a USB port in the glovebox and a 3.5mm aux port in the centre box, but no USB. It has the basic iDrive system.

Is there a way of getting my iPod to interact with the iDrive. I my e60 I can browse the iPod through the idrive and ideally, I want to have this feature in the f10. Is this possible with my current setup, or will I need to purchase anything additional?

I was told by my dealer that the USB outlet in the glove box is there so you can back up your driver's profile via a flash drive. So, if you take your car in for service and the dealer gives you a loaner car, you can plug you drive into the USB of the new car and your profile will load. The profile, from what I've been told, has your A/C settings, your Radio Presets and a few other things as well.

Hmm, I tried to listen to iPod without USB, and the only thing that was working is audio streaming. I couldn't browse music library via iDrive screen. When I got USB/Aux kit, everything worked. It is really interesting how features are varied in presumably same car...
