I think its a great change from the current. I love our 550i and I find it hard to accept the changes that normally come with a new version but I think its a good transition even without an M tech kit. Personally I see it having a lot more potential over our current for even small mods to make it look great.
I agree it has definite similarities to the 3 series, but thats not so bad because the 3 is a great looking car. I see this as a mix of the 3 and 7 but better proportions than the 7 and more muscular than our current 5.
Just wait until the first standard body comes out with some 20s, wider tires and lowered and I'll bet opinions change quickly. Or for that matter, the Alpina or the M5.
While I know this is BMW, even Mercedes did a great job of taking a very successful E class to the new version they have now and I like that better than the W211 E we have also.
My feeling is that BMW, MB, Porche and Audi are finally getting it and instead of trying to make hugely drastic changes that are so far away from the successes of current versions, they are looking at how they can redesign and keep their current fans but gain new. Look at the new Z4, I really liked the last one but the new one to me looks like a small Z8.

..Hmmmm... I'm soooo intrigued - It's so hard to get a sense of the vehicle from pictures/videos. I feel that one you see it "in the flesh" perceptions may change... or be confirmed...
Hope my local BMW dealer has an event for this 5er soon, like they did for the GT, so I can finally get a firm opinion

looks like an inflated 3 series. IMHO I think BMW just slapped on their badges and said let's see how many we can sell by putting our brand on this car.
but who knows. maybe a clean m-tech kit dumped on some HRE's would look pretty sick.

My Ride: F07 5-Series GT | 2009 '59' | Black Sapphire, Ivory White Leather, Unlacquered Fineline Wood Trim
Media Professional Pack with HDD, Visibility Pack, Electric Front Seats with Memory
20" alloys [style 316] with Pirelli P-Zeroes RF tires, Adaptive Drive
USB Interface, DAB Tuner, Extended Ambient Lighting, Comfort Access
Looks like the Sophisto Gray Xirallic (Brilliant Effect) colour which looks really good in the flesh (not flat grey as it does in brochures and online).
Closest I can discribe it is the Sparkling Graphite you can get on the M3 Coupe.
The E60 looks more modern and edgy than the F10, in many ways BMW has gone backward to a more restrained styling.
I miss Bangle and his flame-surfacing vision that made BMWs distinctive and characterful. The F10 ticks the boxes but I suspect will require LCI facelifts sooner.

Thanks for the pics! I like the F&R Styling changes. Hood makes the car look a little more aggressive. I will have to see what my reaction is in person though. If it comes to the US as an XID with a 6 speed manual, I might have to take the plunge just because...
