Looks like the F10 and the new X3 are selling well...

BMW Group U.S. Reports January 2011 Sales
01.02.2011 Press Release

BMW brand sales up 20.8%
MINI sales up 22.4%

Woodcliff Lake, NJ ? February 1, 2011? The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported January sales of 18,656 vehicles, an increase of 21.1 percent from the 15,410 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

?The combination of strong December sales and miserable weather in many areas provided a real challenge for January,? said Jim O?Donnell, President and CEO of BMW of North America, LLC. ?On the other hand, the new BMW X3 and MINI Countryman played a strong role in January?s percentage gain even though both continue building up their model range, which we will see in the next couple of months.?

BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 20.8 percent in January for a total of 15,905 compared to 13,163 vehicles sold in January, 2010.

In January, best performing vehicles included the new X3 SAV ? officially on sale in the U.S. for only two weeks - up 273.3 percent to 1,075 units; the 5 Series, up 76.2 percent to 4,350 units and the X5, up 23.6 percent to 3,038 units. The BMW SAV segment (X3, X5, X6) continues to show important growth with sales up 42.8 percent from the previous January.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
In January, sales of BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned and pre-owned) increased 1.7 percent to 11,650 vehicles from the 11,451 vehicles sold in January 2010.

MINI Brand Sales
MINI USA reported sales of 2,751 automobiles in January, an increase of 22.4 percent from the 2,247 in January 2010.

Still the 5 Series is beaten by the E-Class. And the situation with the 7 Series is worse than pathetic. It seems that BMW should bring the 5 Series touring to the USA if they want to beat the E-Class. And what should they do about the 7 Series? The S-Class seems to be one head above.

Of course BMW sales numbers are behind MB's, aside from the AMG cars MB's are for old people (kinda like Buick - when's the last time you saw anyone under 60 looking to buy a Buick?). As we all know the population is getting older, not younger, so of course cars like Lincoln, Buick and MB will have increasing sales.

The E-Class outsold the F10 by 409. Looks like the F10 continues to cannibalize the F01/02.

Mercedes-Benz USA Records January Sales of 17,273 Vehicles ? an Improvement of 14 Percent over January 2010
smart USA Records 358 Sales in January 2011 ? an Improvement of nearly 29 Percent over January 2010
New York, NY ? Daimler AG (stock exchange abbreviation DAI) today reported U.S. sales of 17,631Mercedes-Benz and smart vehicles, an improvement of 14.2 Percent compared to January 2010. All sales figures in this release are on an unadjusted basis unless otherwise noted.
Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) continued its strong momentum of the past year with a 14% increase for January 2011 (17,273 vs. 15,158). 16,398 passenger cars, light truck vehicles and 875 Sprinter vans are included in this total. Strong demand in both the Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles and SUVs fueled sales for the month, including diesel models which were up as a group by 136 percent over January 2010. The 9th generation E-Class was the volume leader with sales of 4,759, a 24.5 percent increase over last year, followed by the C-Class ? the gateway to the Mercedes-Benz brand for younger and first-time Mercedes-Benz buyers ? with sales of 4,172, a 3.6 percent increase over last year. Rounding out the top three volume lines is the popular M-Class SUV, which posted monthly sales of 2,484, a 28.9 percent over last January. Notable sales at the high-end were the flagship CL-Class coupe, up 72.6 percent over last January and the SLS AMG supercar, 70 of which were retailed in January.
smart USA recorded 358 sales in January 2011, an increase of nearly 29 percent from January 2010. In January, smart USA delivered its first smart fortwo electric drive to a retail customer and began selling the 2011 smart fortwo with an all new interior, double the number of airbags on coupe models and new available technology and entertainment features.
Detailed vehicle sales information for MBUSA will be announced in a separate press release issued by Mercedes-Benz USA.

Seems like from a percentage increase standpoint, BMW is doing a bit better than M-B. (Not just overall brand but also the 3, 5, etc.)

Comparing sales of the E-Class and the F10 is not fair on any level. For one thing, the current E-Class was released much earlier than the F10. Also, the E-Class comes in many more versions....coupe, convertible, wagon, etc.....not to mention a lot more engine choices.

It really is a mysterie why you can't drive the Touring in US?

It is quite a handsome car.
And probably the best fast family transporter for long distances.

We Europeans look to be the happy ones!

Any figures about world sales of BMW?

That the E-Class is a year older ought to favor the F10... In any event, the F10 numbers will also be inflated to some extent as they include the (now multiple) variants of the 5GT.
