I've recently received my F10 brochure after "expressing an interest" in it and I for one have every intention of getting one, most likely a 520D SE in the autumn before my current E60 reaches another MOT. There were a few things I'd picked up on when looking at the online material and the brochure that I thought I'd share to see if anyone else has any opinions.

Firstly, I've noticed that the standard fit tyres 225/55/17 97W currently don't seem to be available in the UK in runflat variety. While I guess that isn't a problem yet I can't help feeling that they're consequently going to command a significant premium over the existing expensive ones due to the rarity.

While it's not entirely possible to compare UK spec F10s with UK spec E60s as most models have changed engines to some degree I note, presumably due to the extra weight it's now carrying that they're either slower, less fuel efficient or with no real gains in CO2 emission. The 520D is a bit of a step forward on CO2, economy and 0-62MPH but top end has dropped to 141 from 144 - we're talking manual box here. Clearly that isn't a problem on UK roads but it does seem a little odd given that there are lots of claims of it being better in every way than the E60.

The looks, I think, will be an acquired taste like the E60 was originally. I for one love the look of the E60 and did from day one but I also am very into the look of the F10 too. Perhaps it's me getting older but it does look stylish and somehow more luxurious. The new interior is fantastic, even in the base layout, though to get it looking right I think the sport steering wheel is going to be essential.

Finally, for now at least, it's a shame that the online configurator is not working properly for the new 5 yet. Half of the trim levels that are listed in the brochure are not available online. Not to mention the fact that you can only configure a 523i, 535i or a 530d at the moment and even then it doesn't seem to work when you first select a model to configure. I've found you have to start one car then change the model and get it to do a new car. Then it works OK and updates the pictures correctly. Hopefully they'll get this sorted soon. Again I'm obviously talking about the one on bmw.co.uk. Not sure whether the same applies on other sites.
