why don't you guys start an idiot thread in the test room? Post subjects like this. Hey if you overpaint the sides of the rear tail lights on the e60 it looks like a classic e39. Or the f10 looks so modern it's similar to a mercury merkur with amc spirit (fake) wire mesh wheels.

but how can you be sure the same tech and engineering will not be in the new 6 as in the current f10...or is it all about looks for you...

Dude, I am assuming that "same tech and engineering" in the F10 is in the new 6 Series.

So GIVEN that the new 6 Series is similar in build (weight gain, longer wheelbase etc etc) as the F10 compared to the E60, obviously then it comes down to looks! And besides, my $ will be towards the new M6, not just an ordinary 6 Series, so I'm quite relaxed about the tech and engineering speak of...

And this is the kind of design I was expecting from the F10 as well! IF the F10's front was anything similar to the new 6 Series, as I have said in my previous posts, I then would have quite possibly put my $ down for a F10 M5.

Well, I went to the dealership 4 months ago to finally get a chance at test driving an F10 and left somewhat disappointed. I had planned for months to turn in my leased 335i and get an F10 535i. Two things ultimately made me walk away with an E60; I wanted a larger car, but not F10 large, and I was really diggin' the $9k price drop and 2.9% financing on the E60. As for "old looking"...well, I turned in a 335i...I wasn't looking to roll out with a bigger looking 3 series or small 7 series looking F10. That was not my idea of a new 5 series that should make the outgoing look old. BMW failed at that. Frankly, the LCI E60 never looked better after I got my first glance at the F10. I can't wait to see the M-kit on one of them, at which time I really hope that the look improves. My original write up on my experience that day can be found here.

To the guy that said he would take an MB or Audi over the new F10...get real dude. I'm not crazy about the F10, but I'm not crazy either!

I have to ship my E60 on early in the new year, so I'm pretty seriously looking at changing. I had assumed that it would be to a F10, but I went for a drive of a F10 550i / MSport at the weekend. I won't be buying one of those so I don't know what I'll be getting frankly. It was very disconnected in a way that the E60s I've had aren't. Like a Lexus - good car, but not for me. It's not the styling - I remember when the E60 first came out I hated it, but it grew on me so I'm sure the F10 would too. I want something with a much harder edge, and the dealer was telling me that in the currently known F10 lineup, a 550 with MSport kit was as close as I was going to get. Not close enough though.

The dealer was actually kind of sympathetic, and said he that quite a number of his repeat 5er customers had similar reservations. He made the point that the M5 will likely be more than a match for the Jag (or any MB or Audi) but the problem with that argument is that nobody really knows when it will be here or what it will be like. Bad times, because I'm not able to wait.

Last month I took out an XFR and frankly on the evidence of both drives BMW have gone wrong. The Jag felt more rewarding to drive (at least on awful UK roads) and for a similar price was a lot quicker. I can't even argue that the Jag gave away anything in luxury either, because it had just about every toy you can think of. I'm going to try out a Supersport XJ next weekend to see how it compares, if it's as good as I've heard, I may reluctantly be moving away from by beloved BMs.
