Not that it's a huge deal but the 5 series is not comparable to an Infiniti G, it's comparable to the Infiniti M. The new Infiniti M was unveiled a couple months ago in Pebble Beach and that's the pic that should accompany this comparo.

Re: Infiniti M -- Agree 100%. The G is a 3-Series sized car. They've done a very nice job with both models.
I find the Jaguar to be an amazing, handsome car, but just could never bring myself to buy one. Despite massive improvements they're still too troublesome. That, and I can't keep track of their model names. They're as bad as Lincoln in that regard. Even though I consider myself an auto enthusiasts, I have to look them up each time I want to talk about a certain model. Same goes for Infiniti too ...
The comments about BMW being the new segment leader for interior design mirrors my own thoughts when I first looked at the new pics. I drove Audi's for years before switching to BMW and have a lot of appreciation for their design, but I honestly think BMW has taken the 5 to a new level of luxury and quality. It will be interesting to see what Audi releases in just a day or so with the new A8 (in Miami), but right now I don't see them as the interior design 'leader' anymore.
And the Mercedes? I really don't mean to trash them completely, but I don't know what they're thinking with the new E-Class. They may be made of quality materials, granted, but it still looks 'cheap' to my eyes, and very ancient -- like something from the 80's. I guess they figured that if everyone was going to go aero and modern, they should try to be different and return to boxy, but it comes across as just ... old.
I'm almost always "newer is better" and I'm never afraid of change. I welcome it. But I was in a 2-lane turn lane yesterday behind a brand new E-Class parked next to a fairly new E-Class from last year probably, and the older model was much nicer looking. It looked like a luxury German car. The new one was just "blah." You want to call the new 5 bland?? Have a look at the E-Class, and that's all I'm going to say about that.
