One last question: when you say the engine protests at 1300 - is that when you want to accelerate from 1300 revs or generally when you are cruising at 1300 revs?
Cruising at around 85 km/h (70-90) the engine croaks, at 8th gear.

But at over 100 km/h it's not a problem anymore.
The new engine seems to need some 1700 rpm to behave.
The LCI E60 needed only some 1400 rpm.

There's a lot of "80" roads around here, which makes the above a really big problem for me.

BMW negotiations will (once again) start in September...

puh.... that is very surprising. i know the issue from teh e60 520dA (stick worse than with the automatic) but I did not think that it would get worse with teh new engine.. very disappointing!

So, the only thing what is different from I6 engine models is chrome "inlays" in door handles?

Nope, besides the tail pipes on the 535i and the 550i (which are different than on the other engine models) and the sound from the diesel or petrol engine, they all look the same.
The chrome inlays comes with option 322-Comfort Access and apparently also with option 4UR-Ambient Light.

I'm also surprised to hear that the F10 520d struggles more than the E60 520d, especially with the 8-speed sports auto.
Is this something they will be able to sort via a software update? Sounds to me like there is more emphasis on getting into a low gear for fuel economy reasons, but its just not practical on the road, as Ric points out above.

To finish on a postive note, the car looks great!
