You need to touch the door handle. Which doors open is adjustable based on an iDrive setting.

I've just re-read my post and it wasn't clear either - apologies! On my F10 I have to use the key to unlock - there is no 'touch spot' on the handle or anything like that (as far as I have found anyway). By 'in the pocket' I meant I press the unlock button on the key fob while it is in my pocket, and then I leave the keys there due to the Start/Stop button not needing a key either. From what I read, that's the same as your F10. I assume the Comfort Access extra referred to in the brochure will do the proximity unlocking etc.

Thanks for the clarification. I was getting very upset! I know that comfort access opens when touching the door handle. I thought this was cool but not really useful, which is why I did not specify it. However the 'no key' start is OK, but I hate the key in the centre of the cup holders; it looks so untidy. My key either lives in my pocket or in the driver's door handle.

Ditto - would have been smarter if you could shut the cup holder with the key inside.
