If this is close to the final look, I like it. A lot of resemblance to the E39.
I agree Scott, and that's why I love it!!! The E39 was a beautiful car, if this is the natural progression it will be HAWT!!!!!!!

Get used to the smashed front end look. The new, stricter, pedestrian safety standards are dictating this design...
I say the pedestrians!!

Some of the most dramatic features that are evident on the spy shots are kinda MIA on this rendering. Specifically, the flared wheel arches, the strong belt line "rib". IMHO the inner sides of the headlights are not likely.

id luv to understand this better, why does BMW care about this stuff?? obviously they are not mandatory standards, we do not see Ferrari or Lambo making ugly noses to deal with this so called standard, why does BMW care about it and what does it meant to them?

The standard is/will be mandatory in Europe so I think you will see Ferrari and Lambo conforming to them eventually. It looks like BMW is adopting them sooner rather than later -- keep in mind that some people (and manufacturers) place the priority on safety before looks...

I'm liking this car more and more - it looks really good from every angle, so far.
And I think the first-drive automotive press reviews are going to rave about it. Why? Because everything they disliked about the E60 has been addressed. The design seems to strike a perfect balance between the beloved BMW designs of the 1990s and the more radical Bangle shapes of the 'naughts'. The new engines they already adore. The interior is going to be less spartan, more driver oriented, and with higher quality materials (judging by the GT). Even the iDrive is much improved. And if the F10 can avoid any weight gain, well, the handling should be even better than the E60.
What's not to like? I think the transmission is the key unknown here (not the manual - the new auto). Is it going to be well-matched to each engine? Or will it be wussified for improved efficiency? I fear the latter. But so far the initial reviews of the GT say that the all-new, eight-speed ZF automatic transmission mates seamlessly with the I6TT.
Criticism of the new 7 series points to it being too soft when it needs to be hard, and too firm when it needs to be soft. Let's hope BMW gets it right on the F10.
Here's some other spy shots in Jet Black.
