The MPG numbers are based on the US gallon so they are understated by about 20% compared to the UK gallon. The car in question is significantly faster than your 520d, it has around the same power output as an E60 550i - a car that saw me getting around 15 MPG. You have to work out whether you want performance or economy. With a 520d you only have the latter, this car delivers both.
