Can anyone confirm if it is true the 535xi has Hydraulic instead of electric steering. Saw this on euro website and my dealer who just drove a 535xi said steering seem more direct. Said he did not know answer but if true would account for his perception of his experience with the 535xi.

All US F10 models have the same electric steering mechanism...535xi included:

That just says nothing about what kind of steering. As far as I know the X-drives have hydraulic steering.

BMW's website mentions nothing about the F10 X-Drive models having hydraulic steering.

Do you have a link to support this?

RealOEM.com via this link did feature a hydraulic steering pump for the 535i but specifically mentioned in the description that it is for cars with Dynamic Drive. No mention of the 535iX though. We know that BMW has implemented energy efficiency features and have taken out the "always on" hydraulic pump in an effort to save energy and replace it with an electric motor that activates only when needed - and this has in turn resulted in the numerous complaints about the lack of steering feel!

Mine is on order (550i M-Sport) I test drove the 3.0 diesel m-sport and had NO issues at all with it. I do not expect any with my new car.
