But the most interesting info would be the torgue, some 600 Nm, I guess.

 

BMW already confirmed the 535d for the US market back in May 12 of this year. Its all over google search. As far as the release date, we don;t know exactly but sometime next spring 2011.

 

BMW has yet to confirm which specific diesel model it plans to bring to the US. The perceived wisdom is that the 530d may well be the car that would launch here, but BMW has never given any official confirmation either way. One has to wonder whether BMW will actually follow through on the US launch of a 5 Series diesel - probably for many of the reasons in my post above. Either way, there's nothing official from BMW on the specifics.

 

If they bring any diesel, I'd expect it to be the 535 to minimize parts inventories. They already offer this engine in the 3 and X5.

 

Right, that would indeed make sense, but the talk was that it would be the 530d. For the US market the twin turbo gasoline engines effectively render the 535d redundant from a performance perspective, so the additional economy offered by the 530d would be the selling point.

 

Well, one thing that might make sense is to switch all three models to the less powerful but more efficient engine.

Dealers won't want to have to explain why the 3 is offered with a more powerful diesel. And a 330d might sell better than the 335d has, for the same reason.

 

I would prefer the 535 d over the 530d. There are xdrive versions of the 535d GT in Europe so lets hope that the 535d comes here and with xdrive option. You got the best of all the worlds.
