Fuel economy of the 550i ?

My Ride: 2011 BMW 550i; Dark Graphite Metalliic/Oyster, 4.4 TT V8, 8-sp AT, Sports Package, Dynamic Handling, Premium Package 2, Cold Weather Package, HUD
My car is still relatively new (only 2K miles). So far I've been getting about 15 MPG city and about 18 MPG Highway.

I get 18 mpg combined in my CLS63 AMG and I thought that was bad.

I got 21.8 mpg with highway driving in Germany with my 550i after doing BMW Euro Delivery.

Well you have to remember these are high performance, hi-output engines, so don't expect you're going to compete with a Prius. Besides, I didn't get the 550i for the fuel economy

And if you're going to spend $70K for a car ... based on 10K miles driven, the difference in annual cost between one car that gets an average of 25mpg and one that gets 18mpg is about $470/year (with price of gasoline $3.00/gal. Sooooo if fuel economy is really important to you, buy that Prius or always drive downhill. That said, for me, the more important concern is how many times a week do I have to find a gas station OR when I take a trip can I reasonably expect to drive x # of miles between fill-ups. As I've read, that is somewhat an issue with M5 drivers whenever they take a road trip.

What does spending $70K on a car have to do with paying more for gas? You could get a $30K Mustang GT and get even worse gas mileage. The price of a car has nothing to do with it.
The point is, people who buy cars like the 550i or a M5 don't care too much about gas mileage. That's not what these cars are about. Finding gas stations are not an issue because unless you live out in the country, they're everywhere.

My 550i is actually more efficient than my last 545i (which I recall was getting a combined 14/15 MPG). But the improved efficiency is just "gravy" for me. Before getting the car, I've never even heard of "Dynamic Efficiency" or "Regenerative Braking."
The EPA spec listed on my 550i--17 City/25 Highway, is actually better than the 17/24 on last car--the Acura TL which had only a V6!
