I did a quasi double blind test.

I cut the three models from the press kit and then printed each of them on my xerox hi res color office printer. I then laid out the three photos on a table and had my assistants Laura and Chelle arrange them in what they thought the chronological order by year of introduction. Both of them put the E39 first, F10 second and E60 third or last to be introduced. Their deciding factor was the progression of the headlight configuration, with the E60 being the most rakish... Interesting how we sometimes learn so much by those who care so little....

I agree. The headlights are key. When an e60 pulls up behind you all it takes is a quick glance in the rear view mirror to recongnize it. I don't think it will be quite as easy with the F10.

...pics of Laura and Chelle's headlights?

Seriously, I saw a 7-series this morning, approaching from the front. After seeing all these new 5-series pics, I swear I was looking at the new 5 - until I got behind it. They're that close is design, and don't appear to be materially different in size either. Not a real problem for me - I liked the new 7 when it came out, and I like the new 5.

I do not see any BMW as being "regular" , a Camry yes. I think BMW has the following it has is because the cars are unique......not regular.

Well the e39 and the 3 series from that time both look very similar, now the 5 and 7 series are the ones that look alike.

In any event it's true the e60 is the most modern, sleek and progressive. Good for us, that means the value of our cars won't go down as much when the F10 is released.

It is a nice car, but if fell short of what I was expecting from a new BMW. It's like if the e60 wasn't successful and they're taking a step back and returning to older styles. I loved the e60 ever since it came out. I hated the new 3 series as soon as I saw it, and I still do, it's an ugly looking car from any angle. I liked the previous 3 series better than the e39, but after the e60, the F10 is an aggravation and it makes me start looking around at non-BMWs for my next car as I dont like the 7, I hate the 3 and I'm certainly indifferent to the F10.

I like the new F10. The more upright front is more due to European regs than BMW styling progression. I don't dislike the E60 but I've never liked the Dame Edna flutes to the headlight shape and the trunk line slice thru the rear fender. The F10 cures that.

Re the current 3, I don't dislike it but its the most plain. Even the M3 sedan is too conservative.

I do like the new interiors but they will be all so alike. No difference between X5, X6, 5, 5GT, and 7. Although the E38, E39, and E46 were quite similar too.

I like the looks of the F10. It should really look smashing with the M Sport kit and wheels. Can't wait to see the rollout of the F10 M5.
