I have a 525dT with winter tires without studs. This weekend I was driving the E6 from Falkenberg to Kungsbacka in very heavy snowfall and temperature below 0. There was at least 10-20 cm of snow in most places and almost no wheel tracks on the road. The car handled well and I felt completely safe all the time.
My father-in-law bought a 330xdT because he wouldn't trust the rear wheel drive of BMW. When he tried my car out in snowy and icy conditions he was actually very impressed.

I also have winter tires without studs and they Central European version for higher speeds, so basically they not real winter tires at all.
But tires works amazingly well on the snow (especially with X-drive ) and are almost like summer tires on tarmac. But on the ice they are also almost like summer tires. Thank God we have had only couple very difficult days during this winter, but I'm seriously considering getting Nokian Hakka5 with studs for next winter.

My Ride: 1997 BMW E39 528i/5m
348/N6SN (Aubergine/Sand Beige Montana Leather)
0468 Ski Bag
0494 Heated Front Seats
0971 5 Series Mats
0465 Fold Down Rear Seats
0488 Lumbar Support
0677 Premium Hi-Fi System
Even my E39 528i goes fine with snow tires. The ASC is a good system, I can only image how well the DSC+T does. REmember to keep those snows narrow!

My Ride: 2007 530xiT, 1964 MBZ 220SEb Coupe, 1986 MBZ 300E and a 1997 Jeep Cherokee as my cottage car.
Previous rides started with a 1947 Studebaker Commander convertible and included numerous Fords, VWs, MBZs, Saabs and, for added measure, a '61 Buick Special Wagon and Pontiac GTO.
With good winter tires, you should have no problems with a RWD BMW. I've had winter Nokian Hakka 10s and now RSIs on my '86 MBZ since I purchased it new 150K+ miles ago, and I've never had trouble with snow and that car lacks the DSC and DTC that your car has. Studded tires will add even more to your capabilities in snow and ice.

Re: Noise from studded tires,
Though studded tires were outlawed many years ago here in Wisconsin, I do get the opportunity to drive with them when we visit our daughter in Alaska ( just returned from there a few weeks ago ). Studded tires are a must in Anchorage since the minimally plowed and unsalted roads quickly turn to ice. I drove her 2003 Saab 9-5 wagon (our former car) equipped w/Gislav studded tires and there was more noise in the cockpit than w/the Hakka RSIs that we had on the car. However, it was nothing I couldn't live with given the added safety.
