Hi,

new to the forum... here's some background story..
I am a fan for European wagons and I was looking into A4/A6 Avant to replace wife's Mercedes. At some point, one of my friends bought a 94' 525 wagon which brought my attention to newer 5 series wagons. Now, I am mainly searching on used 06+ e61 touring...

anyway, browsed on ebay and found this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/08-BMW-535x...%3A1|240%3A1308

it's a bmw buy-back and that's why the price is very very attractive. This seller always has this kind of cars from MB USA and BMW USA at very "attractive" price. with the mileage and options on the car, the deal seems "too good to be true" and I am really thinking of jump on it.. and buy the extended warranty to cover the possible repair expenses in the future.

by the way, what's the "drawback" if I have "manufacturer buyback" on the title when I sell the car, if any?

please let me know what you guys think..

I'm not sure price is very-very attractive.

It looks very reasonable, but wagons don't hold their value well here so this might not be impossible to duplicate.

That being said, finding a wagon at all is fairly challenging.

"Buybacks" are lemons. But lemons aren't necessarily bad. The laws vary from state to state, but in Pennyslvania a car can be a lemon if it's out of service for 30 days in the first 12 months. If your dealer was waiting on a back-ordered part a few times you could hit 30 days... but that hardly means the car is junk.

The problem may have been more with a very difficult original owner than a genuine defect in the car.

So I wouldn't worry too much about the buyback, but I think you could find others for close to this price, at least as much as you can find wagons at all.

Btw, we love ours!

Does the title have any "brands" on it? "You may also be unable to obtain financing for that vehicle as well due to the "Lemon Branding" it may on the title. Most banks are reluctant to loan money on a branded title vehicle.

I bought my 08 535xi wagon from a dealer with 4k miles on it (service loaner) for just a little more than what they are asking for this one a few weeks ago. Shop around they're out there.

Shopping for a low price, low mile car is half the fun.

Good Luck!

Tough call. It would be a gamble. I wouldn't buy any car without seeing it, though. Some of these guys' ideas of clean and "no dings" is too liberal.

I think for that much money, you could find a CPO 2007 or 2008, and then you would have fewer questions about the car's past. I found a 2008 CPO for 45k, and you could proably get a few thousand off that easily.

That's a good "catch" ... great advice to a potential buyer who will need to obtain financing. It's not as negative as a "salvage title" but may have some repercussions if a buyer is seeking bank financing.

Anyone know what BMW Financial Services position is on financing buy-backs at their own dealerships??
