Default Timing chain failure

I have a 2008 touring, 197k miles on the clock and the timing chain has snapped.

It looks I will be replacing the engine.

Have you been in touch with the dealer? Might be worth a try seeing as it's a known issue.

It is a known problem, but I did not know that when I bought the car.
Apparently this N47 engine had this problem between 2007 & May 2009.
When I googled 'BMW 520D N47 timing chain failure' it was like turning on the Christmas tree lights.
It appears that BMW do not want to know.

You've probably read this after googling, but if the car has full BMW service history they're more likely to help with the cost of the repair, but you'll probably have to push for it.
