Hello everyone! I am a new E61 owner and new to E60.net. This web site looks great and seems that it will be as useful as the X5world and e46fanatics forums I have used in the past.

Now to my question ...

I want to put staggered 19's on my 2006 530xiT, and as you all seem to know, BMW doesn't appear to approve of staggered rims on the x-drive wagon. Why it is OK for the e53 and e70 X5's and not for the e61 with x-drive is a mystery to me, so perhaps someone on this board has an answer for that (if there is one).

Anyway, aside from that, it seems to me the offset of the OEM X5 19" rims looks about right for the e61 with x-drive; X5 rims up front are 19x9 et48 and in back are 19x10 et45. Bavarian Autosport tells me 19x8.5 et40 front rims with 245/40/19 tires and 19x9.5 et45 rear rims with 275/35/19 tires will fit the e61 with x-drive, so as long as I stick with those same tire sizes, I guess the only question I have is whether or not the extra 1/2" rim width will be a problem (keeping in mind the tire widths already fit according to Bavarian Autosport).

Does anyone know if staggered 19" X5 rims will fit? The irony of all this ... my X5 came with the staggered Style 63 19" rims which I took off to install staggered Style 87 20" rims. Those Style 63's were sitting in my garage for years and I just sold them a couple months ago. I wish I still had them here so I could give them a try on my e61. Ahhhh!

Thanks for any help and insight.

I dont think you can put staggered rims on any E61 due to the rear suspension being self leveling and not having the room. Not without spacers anyway.

Thanks for the response!

My X5 had self-leveling rear suspension and came from the factory with staggered 19" rims, so I don't see why the E61 would have a problem with a staggered setup as long as the rim offset is right and the tires will fit up inside the wheel well without rubbing throughout the limits of the rear swingarm travel. All self-leveling suspension consists of is a rubber donut in place of the rear springs, and a compressor that adjusts the pressure inside the rubber donut until the car is level. The X5 rear end is the one from the 7-series and neither of those cars had the rear springs portruding into the rear wheel wells and taking up room. The rear springs don't portrude into the rear wheel wells on my e46 either, so I don't see why they would make the rear springs of the E61 portrude into the rear wheel well. I am picking up my E61 tomorrow, so once I have it, I will have a look to see where the rear springs are.

Also, on my e46 I have 18x8.5 et40 front rims with 225/40/18 tires and 18x9.5 et45 rear rims with 255/35/18 tires. While those tire sizes are a little smaller than what is required for the e61, I can still bolt them up to the e61, see how they fit, and measure how much extra room there is in the wheel wells for the larger tires. All I need is an extra 20 mm width and 15 mm height all around to fit the proper size 19" tires for an e61. If I do that, I will post the results.

Can't help you with the wagon, but you can ask member Jed Peter what he did.

As for my xi, I'm running staggered 19's.

19x8.5 ET40
19x9.5 ET45

They fit perfectly and I even went so far as to add 5mm spacers up front and 10mm spacers in the rear. Oh, and I also lowered my car too with the H&R XI Springs. Still no issues.

Good luck with your search!

I figured it would be OK. What tire sizes are you running - 245/40/19 up front and 275/35/19 out back? I don't think rim width really matters all the much in the end, as long as the offset is suitable and the rims aren't wider than the tires.

Thanks!!

Not TRUE!!

I?m running staggered 20?s on my E61 and have no problems at all
Just the right offset and no spacers!
Front 9x20 ET 15 with 255/35-20
Rear 10x20 ET 20 with 285/30-20
But mine is no Xi...just RWD.
Pics here: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=54368

And its possible to go staggereg on a E61 too!!!
Here is a link to a E61 530 xd 2007 with staggered 20?s (in sweden)
http://www.garaget.org/?car=58397&image=531374

Messed him and asked for offset but he didn?t know, but he didn?t have any problems with rubbing!
Here is his setup.
Koya Magic 20" Split
8,5 x 20 Front
9,5 x 20 Rear

Michelin Sport
255/30-20 Front
285/25-20 Rear

Right offset and wheel diameter is the key!

C?s bimmer is the man on staggered rims for E60 xd!
I?ve read almost every thing he had written about the topic and he knows what he?s talking about

I?ve also just scanned the internet for some new 19" E61 X-drive wheels and found out that there isn?t much to choose from.
Of cause depending on what you like
The Koya Magic in 20" that Deeman showed us, definitely has the right look I think.

This is what I?ve found. The Dotz Mugello. Not a new wheel though but it is suitable for the E61 X-drive.
19"x 8,5" front and 9,5" rear, with an et of 35.
The same result as C?s offset including 5mm spacers front and 10mm rear.
What do you think? Ouch, they are mounted on a Saab . . . So be ware . . .

Can't recall the details, but I know more than one person told me specifically NOT to use spacers on an x-drive. Search some older threads on the topic to see what you can find...

It sounds like I'm a bit out on a limb here. Based on the fact that I want to get some 19's within the next 2 weeks and don't want to blow the bucks on a setup I can't use, I suppose I better set my sights on something someone has actually tried - that sounds like 19x8.5 et40 on the front and 19x9.5 et45 on the back.

Thanks for all the help everyone!
