I am in the Stockholm area and have just bought a Titan silver 2005 530d Touring and it comes with Summer tyres and Style 134 16" wheels.

I therefore need to add winter tyres to drive legally for the remainder of the month, but I'm somewhat confused to what are good but cost affective options.

I really like nearly all the BMW original rims, but I've seen cheaper brands like DOTZ and AEZ who have very nice designs though I'm unsure regarding the quality. Are these rims good in winter conditions? Are there any other brands that I should consider?

Do you think it would be worth having the included style 134 wheels re-tyred for winters and upgrading to summer wheels that are a bit more exciting looking?

Where is the best place to buy my wheels? I have looked on blocket, but there isn't much there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that the best strategy is the one you mention yourself, keep the 16" wheels for winter use and find a decent set of wheels for the summer period.
As has been discussed here, and on eg AutoPower.se, is that replica wheels are inferior in quality. Especially noticable in our salty climate as the paint looses its grip on the wheel

Personally I like www.salesafter.de. I bought my 172M's there! They have very competitive prices - and only quality tyres.

AEZ is ok; just like AZEV and Borbet quality wheels are to my knowledge Rial, BBS, MoMo, Hartge... but then you're in a another price range...

Thanks for the link and the info narvselius.

I must say, I am warming to the idea of cooler looking bmw original wheels for the summer and re-tyring the old wheels for the winter. Do you have any good suggestions for winter tyres? I have studded tyres on my old car but with the way the weather has been this winter, I wonder if I should avoid them this time.

Depending on your type of driving I would reccomend friction tyres. If you mainy drive in the Stockholm area and don't really need to drive what ever weather, I would go for frictions. Me on my side some times have to go to the really north and also depend on the car, I have studded ones.

I have Hakka 5 and they are stunning on ice and snow. They are a little soft and the grip on dry and snow/ice free roads is not the best. On my wifes Volvo we have studded Michelin Pilot Alpine and I feel that they are not as good on ice, but they are more stable.

I have also really good experience of salesafter, they are so service minded and can create almost what ever kit you want from original wheels. I bought 2 extra 124 wheels and 4 tyres, no problems at all. I think the shipping was only 600sek and took only 1 week to get it to my door. Prices is stunning, when you buy wheels the tyres is almost for free compared with Swedish prices.

I would if I lived in Stockholm go friction tyre!
Because the roads are almost always salted and very clean from snow.

Go for bigger wheels for the summer and put friction winter tyres on the wheels you got!
Thats what would have done
