Thanks for this detailed description. I looks like we're over there.
Of course the first thing I've made, was to search the web for a drawing of the circuit to really try to "see" a little bit further.

Regarding the suspension settings, clearly for someone who has a specific car for track days, this settng is more than enough...

Sorry, Here's the link to the circuit homepage:

I know SG535d is sourcing some stiffer ARBs. I will be interested to know how much difference they make.

Anyone know whether the M5 or Alpina use stiffer ARB's than an M Sport does?
The M5 Front ARB is 26.5mm vs the 25.5mm of M Sport Suspension and 25mm of std set up. (Active steering ARB is 22.5mm). The rear M5 is 18mm vs 16mm Sports vs 13.5mm std. What I don't know is difference in materials used (my CSL ARBs are different in composition to a regular M3). One easy way to stiffen without changing parts is to alter the pick up points slightly - requires a couple of new drill holes in the ARBs for the drop links. I haven't looked closely at the E60 ARB's but this has been possible on other BMW's. Once you've done that, take the front struts off, send them to Leda to modify for adjustable platforms, put some EG dampers in, fixed rate springs and some nice ali adjustable top mounts, set camber at -3, caster at 5.5 and away you go.

NfS, everything is a matter of opinion of course, but while there are many that will like it (me included), I would not dream of describing any M Sport suspension set-up as a 'comfy ride'.
Maybe I like a hard ride (ooer), but I thought my m-sport coupe was perfectly acceptable for everyday use on very long journeys.

Point I'm making is that it's an everyday road car set up.

I've also driven a couple of cars set up for circuit racing and the difference was striking, you could not live with them on the road for any sort of distance.

No doubt that why the E30's in Juliann's sig have taken to the grass...in search of greater ride comfort

Was the Cateram lining you up for an overtaking manouvre or had you just whipped past him?

Maybe he was just trying to keep warm by staying in your slipstream and using the heat from your exhaust to stop his bits from freezing off?

To be honest, most of the Caterhams are faster. This is partly because the drivers need to create enough engine heat soak to stop their bits from freezing off. I can normally pick of a few of the less experienced drivers though. I can't slipstream them because the grill on a sport model will let a Caterham pass straight through. Messes up the turbo something rotten when that happens

You need to fit a finer mesh (or a splitter - ouch ).

I now have a mental picture of an E61 sucking a Caterham into the front grill, chewing it up and then spitting it out again!
