Rear liftgate stopped working - and temporary fix.
#1
I wanted to share this information with the crowd.
My power rear liftgate would close all the way and then open as if something was blocking it. Nothing was.
I couldn't find information on this site or anywhere else on how to troubleshoot this. Upon reading the manual, I found an access port to the rear hatch that had the "emergency" latch release. The latch release is a pin about an inch long and 1/8" in diameter.
I opened the port and put my finger in the hole. I poked around and could feel that something was loose inside, possibly a spring.
I noticed that the lights in the cargo compartment would go out if I moved the "emergency" latch release.
So I closed the trunk, and my father held it closed while I moved the latch release in the direction that turned off the lights and it latched the lock.
Then, for the rest of the weekend, I did not open the liftgate. At least I didn't have to duct tape it closed.
