Default Power tailgate/boot doesn't stay open

Hi

I've seen a few posts on the board with various power boot problems but not this one so grateful for any advice.

The whole thing works fine (lock, unlock, open, close) but just recently when it gets to the fully open position it just slowly sags back down again. If left long enough (2-3 mins) it will close about 15-20cm but no more. There must be some sort of angle sensor in there because at this angle if you press the button to close the boot it will re-open it (i.e. push it back up 15-20 cms) but any less then the button will close it as normal.

There has been a click sound on opening for a few months now (like something was stuck and then popped open) as the boot was about halfway through its opening cycle but no other grinding sounds and no obvious leaks from the hydraulic ram.

Anyway I was wondering whether I need a new helper strut or my hydraulic ram needs topping up (if this is even possible) or something else?

Any ideas folks?

Check hydraulic fluid level first.

Thanks. What's the best way to check?

You can also buy a small parts kit which includes the top-up oil (51247163663) .
